Master’s Program in Management FEB Unpad Provides Solutions to Global Business Challenges

Master of Management Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Padjadjaran University (Unpad), Bandung, Indonesia, has been able to align itself with the leading Business Schools in the world that achieved International Accreditation from ABEST21 (Alliance on Business Education and Scholarship for Tomorrow, a 21st century organization). Even more proud, the MM FEB Unpad Program also received the award of Excellence in Teaching for Collaborative Based Learning from ABEST21, which is recognition of excellence in collaborative teaching involving industry (graduate users).

Those working capabilities is achieved through the implementation of the flagship program that has been running up to Batch-5, namely the International Joint Seminar and Company Visit course conducted in Tokyo, Japan. Learners learn a number of best business strategy practices at companies in Japan visited, as well as learn culture and pop culture as part of business development. At the event, participants presented a research proposal paper in front of the Professors of this course at Rikkyo University, Tokyo, Japan.

MM FEB Unpad program has been able to apply superior learning method through the learning of the Strategic Management Simulation. Learners are included in the group and assigned to formulate a “Manstra” or strategic management for a different company based on the format commonly used by the industry. The simulation involves participants with a background of concentrations of interest, ranging from marketing, finance, human resources, risk, assets and assessment, and Hospital.

MM FEB Unpad program is part of the FEB Unpad which this year entered the age of 60 years. The sustained hard work of MM FEB Unpad has formed an alumni network who have managerial and strategic positions in companies and institutions to become lecturers in this program. The combination of qualified teachers as Academic Qualification and Professional Qualification is one of the strenghts of MM FEB Unpad Program. This MM Program has been able to deliver its graduates achieving various strategic positions as CEO and Board of Directors in State Owned Enterprises (BUMN) and private companies as well as government agencies.

Here is SWA Magazine’s interview with Popy Rufaidah, SE, MBA, Ph.D., Head of Master’s  Program in Management, Faculty of Economics and Business, Padjadjaran University, who also serves as Secretary General of AFEBI (the Association of Faculties of Economics and Business – Indonesia)

When is the Master of Management Program is established? What are the courses offered?

The Master of Management Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Padjadjaran (MM FEB Unpad Program) was established on June 19, 1992. Accredited by BAN-PT and ABEST21 (The Alliance on Business Education and Scholarship for Tomorrow, a 21st century organization), the International Accreditation from Japan.

The MM FEB Unpad program offers five Paths: Double Degree Class, Sandwich Program Class, Regular Morning Class, Executive Class and Top Management Class.

The concentrations offered are functional based (Management: Marketing, Finance, HR, Operation, Strategic) and by sector (Management: Hospital, Risk, Asset and Assessment, Banking, Business and Sharia Finance)

What is the strength/advantage of MM FEB Unpad Program? Is there a dual degree with abroad?

The streght/advantage of MM FEB Unpad Program is in combining learning method between qualified lecturers of Academic Qualification and Professional Qualification, and International Direct Exposure (attending the International Joint Seminar and Company Visit) in Japan.

MM FEB Unpad Program is the only MM Program in Indonesia that offers concentration in Asset Management and Valuation. This concentration is delivered under the cooperation with MAPPI (Indonesian Appraiser Profession Society). Lecturers of this concentration are profressionals certified by MAPPI.

Dual Degree Program implemented by MM FEB Unpad with: First, Rikkyo University in Tokyo, Japan for the Master of Public Management and Administration (MPMA) Program. Second, Groupe ESC Troyes Group ESC Troyes, Champagne School of Management, in Champagne, France with the Master of Science in Management Program concentrating in Marketing & Strategy, HRM, Finance, Innovation & Entrepreneurship.

Are students of S-2 students mostly fresh graduates from S-1 or mostly civil servants / lecturers or private employees? What grade line is the most direct graduate of S-1? What is the reason?

There are five paths in the MM FEB Unpad Program:

  • The Class of Double Degree Program is delivered in Rikkyo University, Tokyo, Japan and Groupe ESC Troyes Group ESC Troyes, Champagne School of Management, in Champagne, France
  • The Class of Sandwich Program is delivered in Rikkyo University, Tokyo, Japan.
  • The Regular Class or Morning Class (total 44 SKS) is intended for fresh graduates from S-1 and for private and public organizations employees that are assigned to study.
  • The Executive Class or Weekend Class (44 credits) is usually attended by employees from State Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Private Owned Enterprises (BUMS), government institutions and entrepreneurs.

The Regular and Executive Classes have been attracting proportional number of students, whereas since the admission of new students has been oriented to choose either regular or executive class based on the choice of the prospective students.

Starting Academic Year 2017/2018, MM FEB Unpad Program offers Top Management Class (total 38 SKS) that is intended for professionals who have had work experiences of at least 10 years and have managerial position in company or institution.

Are the lecturers only Unpad’s lecturers or is there visiting professors from abroad?

Lecturers in MM Unpad FEB Program are not only Unpad Lecturers, but also visiting professors from abroad. Like, the course of International Seminar and Company Visit, handled by Professor of Rikkyo University and Takushoku University (Japan). This course is held by 7 (seven) lecture sessions in Indonesia and 7 (seven) other sessions is by joining International Joint Seminar at partner universities in Tokyo, Japan; as well as company visit to company in Japan. The course of International Joint Seminar and Company Visit to Japan must be followed by all students. It has now been done up to the 5th batch.

Visiting scholars from the University of Leiden, the Netherlands teaches each semester on the concentration of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management in collaboration with Integrated Microfinance Management Study Program and FEB Unpad.

How to take dual degree? In what study program is available?

Dual Degree is followed by a year or two semesters in the MM FEB Unpad Program, to complete 38 credits of subjects.

In the second year or third semester students attend lectures at partner universities abroad. Currently there are two types of Dual Degree programs from Rikkyo University for Master of Public Management and Administration (MPMA); and Groupe ESC Troyes Group ESC Troyes, Champagne School of Management, in Champagne, France with a Master of Science in Management program in Marketing & Strategy, HRM, Finance, Innovation & Entrepreneurship.

How much tuition per semester? What is the most expensive path? What about the availability of scholarships?

The tuition fees per semester for each path (Regular Morning, Executive, and Top Management) is Rp 13.5 million.

Development Funds once paid for each path are:

  • Regular or Morning Class: Rp 13.5 million
  • Executive Class: Rp 19.5 million
  • Top Management Class: Rp 35.5 million
  • Pre-MM (matriculation) for whose S1 (undergraduate) path comes from Non-Management: Rp 5.000.000

The majority of students of MM FEB Unpad Program can complete the study as soon as possible:

  • Regular Class Morning (3 semesters, total cost Rp 59 million),
  • Executive Class (4 semesters, total cost Rp78, 5 million),
  • Top Management Class (4 semesters, total Cost Rp 94.5 million).

All paths are required to take the course of International Joint Seminar and Company Visit to Japan worth USD $ 1,900. Fees already cover for seminars fees, tickets, accommodation and transportation.

Double Degree Class: Rp 59 Million (for Regular Class Morning total cost for 3 semesters at MM FEB Unpad) and 1,500,000 Yen (1 year tuition fees paid to Rikkyo University).

Sandwich Class: Rp 59 Million (for Regular Class Morning total cost for 3 semesters at MM FEB Unpad) and 350.000 Yen (tuition fees 1 semester paid to Rikkyo University).

The MM FEB Unpad program welcomes students using education funds through the LPDP Scholarship (Lembaga Dana Dana Pendidikan) of the Ministry of Finance, STAR BPKP Scholarships, and Scholarships from government as well as private institution.
